UD Trucks Indonesia reaffirmed its position as a pioneer in future commercial vehicle solutions, demonstrating this by holding a discussion forum at GIIAS 2025.
The discussion forum was titled "Truck Technology Development in Indonesia: Viewed from the Perspective of Product Innovation, Government Policy, and Driving Safety."
UD Trucks demonstrated a comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges of the transportation industry, from emissions and safety to fleet digitalization.
According to the 2023 World Bank Logistics Performance Index (LPI), Indonesia ranks 63rd globally, still lagging behind other ASEAN countries such as Thailand (34th) and Malaysia (26th).
One of the main causes is low logistics efficiency, with Indonesia's logistics costs reaching approximately 23% of GDP, far above the global average of 12-14%.
The main contributors to these high costs are fleet inefficiency, wasteful fuel consumption, and suboptimal operational waiting times.
In the discussion, UD Trucks explained three main approaches it offers to address the national logistics challenges.
First, in terms of engine technology, UD Trucks presents the Quester truck with Euro 5 emission standards, adopting a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system.
This technology has been proven to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by up to 85% compared to Euro 2 standard vehicles, making it a concrete solution to reduce the environmental impact of the transportation sector.
Second, in terms of operational efficiency, the Quester is equipped with an ESCOT (Automatic Manual Transmission) (AMT) automatic transmission, which enables more precise gear shifting and fuel efficiency.
This technology can increase fuel efficiency by up to 10% on average, extend the life of vehicle drivetrain components, and reduce driver fatigue, a key factor in reducing the risk of workplace accidents.
Third, UD Trucks is also promoting digitalization in fleet management through the My UD Fleet system.
This service enables logistics companies to monitor vehicles in real time, analyze driver behavior, and implement more planned vehicle maintenance.
With My UD Fleet, fleet management becomes more efficient, from managing vehicle rotations, extending vehicle lifespan, and significantly reducing operational costs.
"Technology isn't just a feature, but a solution. By combining cleaner engines, smart transmissions, and fleet connectivity through My UD Fleet, we aim to become a national logistics transformation partner. We have tested this solution in various regions and have proven to improve operational efficiency," explained Catur Satyawira, Product Management Representative for UD Trucks Indonesia (July 31, 2025).
UD Trucks also offers standard active safety features, such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Electric Cab Tilt, and an ergonomic cabin to provide maximum driver comfort and safety.
With this approach, UD Trucks strives to reduce the risk of workplace accidents, which have been a major contributor to traffic accidents in the commercial vehicle sector.
In his presentation, Yusuf Nugroho stated that the government is gradually harmonizing commercial vehicle regulations with the 2060 transportation sector decarbonization and Net Zero Emission (NZE) targets.
He emphasized that initiatives from industry players like UD Trucks not only support the national agenda but also have a ripple effect on overall national efficiency.
Yusuf also emphasized the importance of data and telematics systems, such as those promoted by UD Trucks through My UD Fleet, as they enable the government to design evidence-based policies.
Furthermore, fleet data also assists the government in safety monitoring, operational standardization, and transportation infrastructure planning that is more adaptive and responsive to needs in the field.
The implementation of My UD Fleet in several national logistics companies has shown significant results. This system has been proven to reduce vehicle downtime through an early warning system for potential breakdowns.
In terms of efficiency, fuel use can be optimized, particularly with an accurate driving behavior analysis approach.
Furthermore, data-based safety training obtained from the system has also successfully reduced the number of workplace accidents and increased compliance with the company's internal safety standards.
Another result, more optimal fleet rotation has directly contributed to on-time delivery and increased customer satisfaction.
This talk show serves as an important opportunity for UD Trucks to affirm its vision as a partner in the transformation of the Indonesian logistics industry.
Beyond products, UD Trucks drives change through a systemic approach—integrating in Technical innovation, digitalization, and active collaboration with regulators to create a smarter, safer, and more sustainable transportation system.
As pressure on the logistics industry to become more efficient and environmentally friendly increases, UD Trucks positions itself not only as a vehicle provider, but as a partner in progress for Indonesian industry players.
